Enhanced performance of Pd-[DBU][Cl]/AC mercury-free catalysts in acetylene hydrochlorination

Compared with the rapid deactivation of Pd/AC catalyst, an eco-friendly Pd-[DBU][Cl]/AC ([DBU][Cl], 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene hydrochloride) catalyst enhanced stability was synthesized and applied in hydrochlorination acetylene. The Pd-20[DBU][Cl]/AC exhibits 96.7% acetylene conversion 98.9% selectivity vinyl chloride within 24 h evaluation under conditions T = 180 °C, GHSV(C2H2) 360 h–1 V(HCl)/V(C2H2) 1.2. is attributed to prevention reduction Pd(II) Pd(0), inhibition formation coke deposition on surface, loss Pd species during reaction. TPD characterization DFT theoretical simulations confirmed that PdCl2-[DBU][Cl] complex has stronger adsorption HCl weaker C2H2 C2H3Cl compared PdCl2. Furthermore, catalytic mechanism over PdCl2 site put forward based simulations. good activity 60 lifetime test indicates it likely be a promising alternative HgCl2 catalysts.
